Mobile App for PGA Golfer
Project Overview
Our team created an app for a famed SoCal-native golfer on the PGA tour. The app features several modules including content page, a live schedule, and storefront. Version 2 is in progress and features the integration of several new modules.
My Role
I served as the project lead and managed client communications, gathered business requirements, designed wireframes, implemented designs, developed and tested the application, and continued to ideate new features with the client. We are currently reviewing the SDKs and scoping work for several new integrations.
The Challenge
The client wanted to increase brand awareness and enhance the golfer’s relationship with his fans. His team had no technical personnel to execute the project and so our agency was brought on to execute their vision for an app. The golfer had a PR agency and several large sponsors that we worked alongside to procure content for the app, as well as maintain legal compliance.
Solution
The app we built featured a content-rich home page, an events tab for the golfer’s schedule, his recent news highlights, current season statistics, a storefront of golf equipment & accessories, and a ‘fan club’ login.
We built the application on WordPress in tandem with the eCommerce plugin, WooCommerce, to enable the storefront, and the development framework, JetEngine, to create advanced site logic and data relationship. We decided to use Wordpress for its advanced built-in content and user management functionalities, and because we could securely self-host it on AWS.
We implemented Progressive Web Application logic on the website, and then created an application wrapper to be posted on iOS and Google Play. We chose to use this method of wrapping a WordPress website, instead of hardcoding an application, in order to provide maximum easy of content management for their nontechnical team.
Results
We are close to launching the first version of the app, expected in summer 2024.
